At Geneton, we strive not only for excellence in robotics but also in our approach to teamwork and community engagement. By pursuing these awards, Geneton aims to not only excel in robotics but also to make a lasting impact in our community. We believe that our commitment to innovation, teamwork, and outreach truly embodies the meaning of "genetos"—to create and inspire. Throughout the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), teams have the opportunity to compete for a variety of prestigious awards that recognize their achievements in engineering, innovation, and leadership. Below are some of the key awards our team aims for:
The FIRST Dean's List Award recognizes outstanding secondary school students in grades 10 and 11 who demonstrate leadership and dedication in the robotics community. Sponsored by the Kamen family, this award highlights the importance of inspiring others and embodying the values of FIRST.
The Inspire Award celebrates a team that exemplifies the spirit of Gracious Professionalism both on and off the field. This team acts as a source of inspiration to others, sharing their experiences and enthusiasm with peers, sponsors, and the community. Their success in designing and building a robot reflects their collaborative efforts and positive impact.
The Think Award honors teams that excel in the engineering design process. It focuses on the journey taken during the build season, emphasizing creativity and problem-solving. Teams must present a comprehensive engineering portfolio detailing the science and mathematics behind their designs, as well as their successes and areas for improvement.
This award recognizes a team for its efforts in helping the community understand FIRST and the opportunities available in engineering, science, and technology. Winning teams actively engage in outreach, recruiting engineers, and demonstrating a clear plan to achieve their goals.
The Innovate Award is given to teams that showcase innovative and creative solutions in their robot design. This award highlights the importance of unique approaches to game challenges, encouraging teams to push the boundaries of traditional engineering.
Presented to teams that incorporate industrial design elements into their robot solutions, the Design Award celebrates creativity and functionality. Winning teams demonstrate effective design that not only meets competition requirements but also embodies an aesthetically pleasing and durable construction.
The Motivate Award honors teams that actively promote the FIRST culture within their school and community. Candidates must demonstrate respect and Gracious Professionalism, submitting an engineering portfolio that outlines their team’s identity, fundraising goals, outreach efforts, and community service plans.
This award recognizes teams that effectively use sensors and software to enhance their robot's functionality. It celebrates innovative solutions that improve autonomous operation and mechanical systems through intelligent control.
The Compass Award acknowledges an adult mentor or coach who provides exceptional guidance and support to the team. Nominated by team members, the winning mentor demonstrates what it means to be a Gracious Professional and plays a crucial role in inspiring the team.
The Promote Award is given to the team that creates the most compelling public service announcement (PSA) video to celebrate science, technology, engineering, and math. Teams must submit a one-minute video that effectively communicates the values of FTC and engages the community.
